How much does a composite fence cost?

Does composite rot like wood?
Composite boards are wood-plastic composites designed to resist rot and insect damage far better than solid lumber, which is a main selling point. Visible surface wear and fading can still happen over time, and the core composition varies by brand.
Is composite the same as vinyl?
No. Vinyl fencing is hollow pre-assembled panels; composite is a solid lumber-like board built up like a wood fence from posts, rails and boards. That is why this calculator uses the wood-style take-off.
How long does a composite fence last?
Manufacturers commonly publish warranties in the 20 to 30 year range for the boards, longer than most pressure-treated pine. The posts and framing are often traditional wood or aluminum, so the fence as a whole lives and dies with the framing, not the boards.
Do composite boards need painting or staining?
No, that is the point: composite is factory colored through the board, so there is no annual staining cycle like cedar. Clean it with soap and water when it gets dirty and it stays the same color.
Can I build board-on-board in composite?
Some composite lines sell boards wide enough and with hidden-flange profiles that support board-on-board or privacy layouts; others are best installed with manufacturer rail kits and a matched gap. Confirm the instalable profile with the brand before planning the overlapping look.
What footings do composite fences need?
The posts need the same concrete footings as any fence post, set below the frost line where it applies. Composite boards themselves need no footing; they ride on the rails.
